@theshelb and I met on Oct 24th to introduce SimScore as a way to improve decision making processes within the ZK Nation and DAOs in general. She suggested I create a New topic. Subsequently @drnick wrote the above tweet.
Introduction
The primary reason decision-making in DAOs is challenging lies in the reliance on open discussion forums like Discourse. Effective decision-making is not aligned with these settings, as they amplify unproductive group dynamics.
“If people are not making their own judgments and are relying instead on what other people think, crowds may not be wise at all.” Kahneman et al., Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement
Active discussions in the ZK Nation forum reflect these issues:
- The influence of who speaks first.
- Herding, or relying on others’ statements.
- Groupthink, where members avoid dissent to sidestep confrontation.
Research confirms that accurate judgments require independent thought and unbiased aggregation, particularly in settings like DAOs. These methods ensure that each voice is heard without interference from others’ views.
For collating independent opinions, tools like JotForm.com can collect diverse perspectives.
SimScore
We then propose using SimScore to prioritize and cluster responses, producing an unbiased aggregation and revealing the community’s true priorities.
Proposed Action
Let’s try it.
Q: “ In your opinion, how might transitioning from open discussion forums to an independent judgment and aggregation approach improve (or challenge) the decision-making process in zkNation?”
A: For the next 7 days, please submit your comments on this topic using the SimScore survey instead of Discourse.
After 7 days, I’ll use SimScore to process the responses and provide in the ZK Nation Forum.
- A priority list
- A relationship graph
- Clustered insights
Based on these outputs, I’ll refine the topic and prepare a draft proposal.
