Proposal Review Call June 18th

Hello everyone! This will be the thread for the next standing Proposal Review call that is meant to take place on Wednesday, June 4th.

Proposal authors of active or developing proposals can request time to present & discuss their proposals with the community.

I will update this forum post the day of the call with a proposed agenda based on results from the forum. I will use that agenda as a guide to help facilitate the call.

:phone: Subscribe to the “ZKsync Delegates Calls” calendar to access call invites and links for these calls.

ZK Token Unlock Note:

  • Token Unlock for Matter Labs Team Members & Investors: When the ZK token launched in 2024, team members and investors of Matter Labs received a total of ~33.3% of the total supply. As of June 18th, a portion of these tokens unlocked for Matter Labs team members and investors. You can read more in the thread linked above and on the ZK Token page on ZK Nation docs.

Execution Updates:

Update on Rate Limiter Minter Mod

The Gov Team has been working with Scopelift over past few weeks to develop the “Rate-limiter mod” - one of the minter mods mentioned in the Minter Mod forum post from a few months ago. This minter mod controls the possible minting frequency. It limits the amount that can be minted from a capped minter per period (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, etc.). The contracts and factory have been audited, and we will share a forum post announcing details soon!

Token Return Contract

We originally were going to create a separate “token return” contract where people could transfer the tokens to a ZkTokenReturn contract, which will “return” the minted but unused tokens to the overall token supply. After internal review and guidance from the ScopeLift team, it felt simpler and more effective to add a public burn function into the token contract itself. We’re going to propose an upgrading the token contract which is an upgradeable proxy contract to have this public burn function, enebaling essentially the “unminting” of minted tokens to be returned to the total token supply. We have also been working on this with Scopelift the past few weeks, and it is currently being audited. Once audited, we will propose a ZIP that would upgrade the token contract.

Sustainable Momentum Phase of Governance

Having launched governance in September of 2024, we are still in the first year of life of the ZKsync governance system. As mentioned during the ETHDenver Delegate meetup, we are currently in the “Sustainable Momentum” phase of governance. This means continuing to strengthen the protocol upgrade coordination process, creating deep & reliable alignment between the Token Assembly, ZKsync Foundation and Matter Labs, and ensuring governance bodies are sustainable for the near future.

Events Note

Thanks to everyone who joined the ZKsync governance coffee chat in Berlin last week! The Gov Team will sadly not be at ETHCC, but we are looking to plan something around DevConnect later this year!
