ZKsync Lite Claim Contract Transition to Governance

As of 9:00am UTC on May 4, 2026, block production on ZKsync Lite was suspended, sunsetting the current state of the protocol. The full details have been outlined in this blog post.

Matter Labs will no longer hold control over the remaining assets. The management of remaining user funds and the underlying claim contract will shift to control of the Token Assembly and the relevant ZKsync Governance System components.

Any future changes to the claim mechanism or the treatment of residual, unclaimed balances will be determined through the ZKsync governance process and a corresponding protocol upgrade. Detailed information regarding ZKsync governance processes is available at docs.zknation.io.

In the case of emergencies, the ZKsync Emergency Upgrade Board will be able to step in under the purview outlined in Schedule 2 of the ZKsync Governance Procedures.

ZKsync Lite Claim Contract Role Overview:

  • owner(): Assigned to Matter Labs. May pause / unpause the contract. This will be transferred to governance after an initial period of security review.
  • ProxyAdmin(): Assigned to the Protocol Upgrade Handler. Managed via governance. May upgrade the contract.

Key Contract Methods:

  • claim(index, token, amount, merkleProof): Self-claim; recipient is msg.sender.
  • claimTo(index, claimant, token, amount, merkleProof): Anyone may trigger, funds always go to the claimant encoded in the merkle tree leaf.
  • transferOwnership: Assigns owner() role, executable by owner() role.
  • renounceOwnership: Removes owner() role, executable by owner() role.
  • pause: Halt all claims, executable by owner() role.
  • unpause: Resume claims, executable by owner() role.
  • upgradeTo: May upgrade underlying contract, executable by ProxyAdmin() role.
  • changeAdmin(address newAdmin): Assigns new contract ProxyAdmin(), executable by ProxyAdmin() role.
