Proposal Review Call Jan 15 - Thread

Hello everyone! This will be the thread for the very first standing Proposal Review call that is meant to take place tomorrow - Wednesday, January 14th at 16:20 UTC.

Proposal authors of active or developing proposals can request time to present & discuss their proposals with the community.

I already have confirmation that the Catalyst Proposal, Staking for Zksync & and BDB proposal authors will be joining to discuss their proposals.

I will update this forum post the day of the call with a proposed agenda based on results from the forum. I will use that agenda as a guide to help facilitate the call.

[TPP-2] AAVE DAO Airdrop Claim Extension Request - VOTING STARTS JAN 21

What is the opinion of ML on this proposal? Would be concerned if there hadn’t been sufficient action taken by Aave to claim in time.

  • For clarification, Matter Labs is not the issuer of the ZK token - the ZKsync Association is. The ZKsync Assocation (where the Gov Team lives) also executed the airdrop. The perspective of the Gov Team is that we do not see any issues with this given the tokens were already allocated to Aave, given the amount and intent of the use is the same as it was in the airdrop. In regards to this setting precedent for others to try to extend the claim window the same way, the Gov Team believes it is fair and open for discussion, but will ultimately be up to the community to decide to pass such proposals.

When did Aave first initiate governance actions needed to implement in order to claim the airdrop?

  • cr1st0f to get back on exact dates, but there were some technical issues and there’s a post in the Aave forums explaining why it had to be redeployed, and that wasn’t deployed until the end of September last year. That was a big part of the delay and then the actual governance process itself took time to get through.

DISCUSSION [TPP] Staking for ZKsync

How does this fit into broader roadmap of getting staking on ZKsync?

  • The goal is to avoid forcing token holders to choose between yield and governance, as many will prioritize yield, undermining governance. This staking solution addresses a short-term issue by allowing those focused on governance to earn yield, but it doesn’t fully resolve the trade-off between using tokens for ecosystem activities versus governance. This V1 is an initial experiment that provides immediate utility to the token, gathers insights on staking behavior, and prepares for long-term success aligned with the decentralized prover roadmap.

What’s should governance understand about how this program works? How does this benefit delegates? Do delegates get more votes?

  • Signals additional token utility to ZK holders, get a feel for yield demand in the ecosystem, and prove out that there’s actually demand for staking from token holders and that we get consensus in the community and from stakeholders that we want seeking and governance to be compatible.

DISCUSSION [TPP] Catalyst: Incentivising Network Growth with Token Programs

Should there be shared marketing guidelines/standards for incentive programs TPPs?

  • Most folks agreed. Also discussed idea of sharing marketing costs or agencies to streamline the marketing process for ZKsync incentive programs approved by governance.

DISCUSSION [TPP] Block Demand Boost (BDB) - SteerCo Request

Similar to shared marketing standard, how can we extend data dashboards/standards to be used as a resource for other TPPs?

  • There was a lot of enthusiasm around this idea. The goal for early TPP development is essentially to be building infrastructure that can be used by other programs to streamline development. We should not have to reinvent the wheel for each proposal. Figuring out what this looks like in practice is still tbd.
