Proposal Review September 10 - Call Recording
Check out the video description for timestamps on different discussion topics. Given we have the recording, notes will be kept very brief. Please watch the recording for full context!
Proposal Updates:
PASSED: [TPP-7] ZKsync Guardians Funding 2024-2026 - This proposal will fund the compensation of ZKsync Guardians for 2 years, from governance launch in September 2024 through to September 2026
Onchain: [TPP-8] ZKsync Community Activation Pilot Program - This proposal allocates 20M ZK tokens across a 12-month pilot program to fund community-driven education, adoption, and visibility for ZKsync. Voting starts Tue, Sep 16 at ~13:30 UTC.
Onchain: [TPP-9] ZKsync Prividium Prize - This proposal pilots a prize program to accelerate the launch of ZKsync Prividium Chains by rewarding the first 10 production deployments with 10M ZK each. Voting starts on Fri, Sep 19 at ~12:40 UTC.
Forum Draft: [ZIP-12] V29 Interop Messaging & Fast Finality Upgrade - The v29 upgrade enables native message passing between ZK Chains and provide faster finality guarantees to third-party observers and applications, such as exchanges and bridges. This proposal was delayed due to some bugs discovers on testnet. Expected to go onchain next week.
Forum Draft: [ZIP-XX] Upgrade ZK Token with Permissionless Burn Function - Upgrades the ZK Token contract to ZKTokenV3, introducing 2 token burn mechanisms and a public max token supply to support protocol-aligned supply management under ZKnomics. This upgrade is conditional to ZIP-12 being executed.
Forum Draft: [TPP-DRAFT] ZKnomics Token Staking - This proposal activates a pilot staking program using Tally staking contracts. The pilot distributes ZK token staking rewards over 6 months with up to 10% return for pilot participants. Reward eligibility is limited to tokenholders delegating to “active” Delegates, those that have voted a minimum of 2 out of last 5 votes.
- Questions:
- Why is an active Delegate threshold set at 2/5? This seems low.
- This is a metric that the Governance Team currently tracks in the Governance Performance Dashboard. The 2/5 is trying to capture the “somewhat” engaged - taking into account some folks may miss a vote or 2 for personal or other (human) reasons. We are trying it out in the pilot initially, but eventually we would like to see the threshold increase.
- Can you confirm the program will be forward compatible to other versions of staking in the future?
- Just like the ZKnomics vision, staking will also be rolled out in stages. The pilot program is an opportunity to try out the mechanics of staking while we prepare for permissionless staking. Staking contracts can be upgraded to support decentralized sequencing and other token utility upgrades.
Forum Draft: [RFC]: Funding Research for a DAO Liveness, Security and Decentralization Dashboard for ZKNation - This proposal requests funding research and development of a governance liveness, security risks monitor and decentralizaiton measurement Forse Terminal for ZK Nation’s governance. No expected onchain date yet.
Additional Proposals Posted Thursday, Sep 11 (not discussed on call):
-
Forum Draft: [TPP-Draft] ZKsync Prividium Roadshow: This proposal will scale ZKsync’s reach and drive Prividum adoption by securing sponsorships at high-leverage Ethereum and institutional finance events, as well as institutional networking activations.
-
Forum Draft: [ZIP-13] Adding a ZKsync OS CTM: This ZIP proposes to add a ZKsync OS based ChainTypeManager (CTM). This is the first milestone towards adoption of the ZKsync OS, which enables chains to have full EVM equivalence, while enjoying cheaper and faster proofs.
Ecosystem Updates
New Docs Page: Capped Minters 101
The Capped Minters 101 resource recently added to the docs outlines what a capped minter is, how to deploy one, how to verify one, how to read capped minter parameters, how to verify the minter role on a capped minter, how to mint from a capped minter, and more! This was created to help increase accessibility to capped minter deployment and verification.
New Docs Page: ZKGPS
There is now a formal page for the ZKsync Governance Program Systems (ZKGPS) entity on the docs. Here you can find the purpose ZKGPS, when one needs to engage with ZKPGS, and the bylaws of the entity.
Curia Labs Delegate Dashboard
Catherine & Varit from the Curia Labs team joined to discuss their new ZK Nation Delegate Dashboard that they shared on the forum last week. The dashboard is meant to provide a clear, data-driven view of our delegates’ activities.
There was a long discussion around how useful dashboards/metrics like this are in regards to capturing valuable contributions of Delegates in various ecosystems. Listen in at minute 41:43 of the recording for a lively discussion amongst Delegates.
