Simple Summary

Creation of a comprehensive analytics dashboard to track all zkSync Elastic Network chains, metrics, and ecosystem growth in a single unified platform.

Abstract

This proposal seeks to establish a dedicated analytics dashboard for the zkSync Elastic Network, providing real-time insights and visualization tools to track the performance, adoption, and impact of all zkSync-based chains. As the Elastic Network continues to expand with multiple ZK Chains going live, there exists a significant gap in the ecosystem - the lack of a centralized platform that aggregates and visualizes network-wide data.

The proposed dashboard will track critical metrics across four key categories:

  1. Network-Level Metrics
  2. Chain-Level Metrics
  3. Decentralization & Security Metrics
  4. Performance Metrics.

This will offer stakeholders, including builders, investors, governance participants, and the broader community, unprecedented visibility into the ecosystem’s growth and health.

The PYOR team, with extensive experience in crypto analytics and dashboard development for major protocols including Arbitrum, Compound, Cosmos, and Internet Computer, will develop and maintain this dashboard over a 12-month period. The implementation will follow a structured 5-milestone approach with a total and one-time budget of $55,850.

Key risks include data accuracy and completeness, which will be mitigated through rigorous validation processes and close collaboration with the zkSync ecosystem partners. The maintenance period ensures ongoing reliability and adaptation as the Elastic Network evolves.

Impact

The zkSync Elastic Network Dashboard will significantly impact the zkSync ecosystem by:

  1. Increasing Network Visibility: Providing comprehensive insights about all Elastic chains in one place will enhance transparency and understanding of the broader zkSync ecosystem. This directly impacts awareness metrics and showcases the collective strength of the network.

  2. Supporting Data-Driven Decision Making: Governance participants, builders, and investors will have access to reliable, real-time data to inform strategic decisions. This will impact protocol development, investment allocation, and governance voting.

  3. Enhancing Network Effects: By visualizing cross-chain interactions and showcasing the collective growth of the Elastic Network, the dashboard will strengthen network effects and encourage further adoption. This impacts total value locked (TVL), transaction volumes, and user adoption rates.

  4. Improving Security Monitoring: Through dedicated security and decentralization metrics, the dashboard will help identify potential risks or vulnerabilities across the network, impacting the overall security posture.

Specifically, the dashboard will track and positively impact:

  • Total zkSync Elastic Network TVL (expected to increase with better visibility)
  • Cross-ZK Chain Transactions (expected to grow with better cross-chain visibility)
  • L2 Market Share compared to other ecosystems (expected to increase)
  • Chain Adoption Velocity (expected to accelerate with better data access)
  • Number of Active zkSync Chains (expected to increase as dashboard showcases success stories)

Advisory Detail

This proposal advises the zkSync community to fund the development and 12-month maintenance of a comprehensive Elastic Network Dashboard with the following specifics:

  1. Dashboard Development: Creation of a public, web-based dashboard that aggregates data from all zkSync Elastic Network chains, processing this data into meaningful visualizations and insights.
  2. Metrics Implementation: Implementation of the following metric categories:
Category Metric Description
Network-Level Metrics Total zkSync Elastic Network TVL Sum of all value locked across ZK Stack chains.
Total Daily Transactions Total number of transactions across all zkSync-based chains.
All-Time Collective Revenue Fees generated across all zkSync chains.
L2 Market Share Elastic Network’s share compared to other L2s.
Number of Active zkSync Chains Total zkSync-based chains live on mainnet/testnet.
Cross-ZK Chain Transactions Number of transactions between different zkSync chains.
Chain-Level Metrics TVL Per Chain Amount of value locked in each zkSync-based chain.
Transaction Volume Per Chain Number of transactions happening on a specific chain.
Active Addresses Per Chain Number of unique addresses transacting on the chain.

Decentralization & Security Metrics Validator Set Size Number of validators/sequencers securing a decentralized zkSync chain.
Risk Analysis L2Beat-style breakdown of risks per chain.
Performance Metrics Peak & Average TPS Maximum and average transactions per second for each chain.
Finality Time Time taken for a transaction to be finalized.
  1. 12-Month Maintenance: Ongoing maintenance, updates, and optimizations for a period of 12 months from launch, ensuring the dashboard remains accurate and relevant as the Elastic Network evolves.
  2. Data Integration: Establishing reliable data pipelines from all zkSync Elastic chains, with proper validation and error-handling to ensure accuracy.

Accountability Framework

To ensure accountability throughout the project lifecycle, we propose:

  1. Milestone-Based Funding: Funds will be released according to the successful completion of predefined milestones, with community verification of deliverables.
  2. Public Development Updates: Regular updates will be shared in the zkSync forum, providing transparency into development progress.
  3. Open Source Code: The dashboard codebase will be open-sourced, allowing community review and contributions.
  4. Post-Launch Reporting: Regular reports on dashboard performance, user engagement, and any technical challenges will be published for the first 3 months after launch.
  5. Community Feedback Integration: A dedicated feedback mechanism will be implemented, ensuring community suggestions can be evaluated and incorporated.
  6. Designated Project Lead: A single point of contact from the PYOR team will be responsible for all communications and accountable for deliverables.

Other Information

Hey there @aakash - thank you for this post. Having reliable ways to be able to track and measure these metrics are definitely one of the keys to success for the ecosystem.

The Gov Team received confirmation from the ZKsync Foundation, as they outlined in their most recent post linked here, that they are already working with Matter Labs data engineers and will reach out to necessary service providers on indexing the necessary data needed to create a dashboard like this.

We have notified the ZKsync Foundation of your proposal, and requested they share more information on how they plan to move forward with the creation of an ecosystem metrics tracking dashboard.

For future reference, if there is any request for tokens in a proposal, the proposal is considered a TPP, not a GAP. Also considering GAP-1 already exists, could you please change the title of your draft proposal to [TPP-X] and move it to the TPP draft category for the time being to avoid confusion. You can read more about the proposal guidelines on the docs page available at docs.zknation.io.

Thanks for letting me know about this. We came up with the idea of an Elastic Network dashboard through a discussion on the zkSync forum with @anthonyrose.

If the Matter Labs’ data team is already working on indexing the data for this project, we’d be willing to work alongside them. It would be helpful if you could tag relevant folks from the Matter Labs’ team so that we can get in touch to best index, query, and visualize the data.

Thanks for the clarification on moving this proposal from a GAP to a TPP. I’ll get on this.

Looking forward to hearing back from the zkSync foundation and Matter Labs on our proposal.

Hey @aakash, the ZKsync Foundation has already funded similar work as part of the shared services initiative we discussed here. Matter Labs is already working on building a similar data pipeline and dashboard so additional work is not needed at this time.

Thanks for the information. Could you tag the Matter Labs representative currently overseeing this? Given our data expertise, we’d love to contribute to their project in some way.
